Project Overview

Azcal Management, managing 8,700 acres in California’s San Joaquin Valley, faced challenges in efficiently monitoring crop irrigation, including time-intensive manual checks and compliance with water regulations. They implemented Opto 22’s groov RIO and EPIC systems, allowing for remote management and real-time monitoring. This upgrade improved water usage efficiency and reduced the risk of equipment failures.

Frequent Downtimes and Costly, Inefficient Operations

  • Extensive Manual Intervention: Before automation, each irrigation pump required hands-on adjustments multiple times a day. This not only consumed significant labor hours but also made it difficult to manage larger scales effectively, limiting the potential for expansion and technological integration.

 

  • Limited Remote Capabilities: The pre-existing systems lacked any form of remote control, which meant that adjustments had to be made in person. This inefficiency was particularly problematic during critical periods of water demand or unexpected maintenance issues, as it delayed response times and increased the risk of crop damage due to inadequate water supply.
